## Sustainable power

### Modern datacenter cooling

Adiabatic cooling is a highly efficient closed-loop method of temperature control that uses evaporation and outside air to reduce energy usage and water consumption compared to traditional air cooling.

### Reliability

### Backup power

For each megawatt of datacenter capacity, Microsoft typically has just over one megawatt of battery backup and generator backup to ensure datacenters can meet the company’s service levels and operational reliability. In the event of a significant power outage, these generators are designed to run for 48 uninterrupted hours before refueling.

### Infrastructure

### Energy consumption

Microsoft tracks hourly energy consumption and renewable energy matching 24/7, with near real-time monitoring.
